A study from Circulation, January 2018 showed that when your lifestyle is mostly sedentary your muscles of your heart become stiff and less efficient in the role of the cardiovascular system. 30 minutes of exercise with warm up and cool down 4 to 5 days per week resulted in 25% or more improvement in heart muscle elasticity and 18% in oxygen uptake.
